CANADIAN INSTITUTE OF PUBLIC HEALTH INSPECTORS

Protecting your community, Ontario and all of Canada

CIPHI Ontario is one of eight branches under the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors. It has the largest branch membership, with 550 of the 1,200 national members.

Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors exists to protect the health of Canadians, to represent all Environmental Public Health Professionals also referred to as Public Health Inspectors, across Canada, and to advance the profession, science and field of environmental public health through certification, advocacy, education and setting standards.

Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors is the only national professional association for Environmental Public Health Professionals in Canada. No other organization covers the continuum of environmental public health: food protection; drinking-water quality; on-site wastewater disposal; indoor air quality; epidemiology; tobacco reduction; communicable diseases and many other environmental health initiatives.

A healthy history

Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors originated in 1934. On that date, the Secretary of State for Canada gave "Public Notice" that letters patent had been issued to the institute under "The Companies Act."

In 1935, The Canadian Public Health Association established qualifications for inspectors relating to post-secondary education and technical training, and conducted examinations for certification.

Today, the Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada), CPHI(C), is granted by Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors to those candidates who fulfil the requirements set forth in the regulations respecting the Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) and governing the Board of Certification of Public Health Inspectors.

This certificate is a certificate of qualification and is intended to meet the needs of the provinces, municipalities, federal government and other employers of qualified Environmental Public Health Professionals. The Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) is recognized by the departments of health and other agencies in Canada as evidence of satisfactory training. The certification process guarantees that the highest standards are met for public health inspection certification.

Leading the way into tomorrow

Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors continually advances the field of public health inspection by providing its members with ongoing opportunities for professional development and key public health information. It is proactive in advancing the field of environmental health and sanitary sciences. Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors works to ensure a healthier tomorrow for all Canadians.
