Report Released - Critical Steps for Canada

The Conference board of Canada has released a report entitled Critical Steps for Canada - Environmental Health Lessons Across Borders (Dec 2009)

Canadians are concerned about the effects of the environment on their health, and appeals for accelerating the action on environmental health have come from many fronts. Canada has taken several positive steps to address the environmental issues that impact health, but much more needs to be done. Critical Steps for Canada examines the innovative approaches taken by governments in three jurisdictions: Australia, Sweden, and California. These jurisdictions have given priority to environmental health and have taken strategic and coordinated action to tackle environmental issues.

The report provides information to the members of the Canadian Centre for Environmental Health and provides a platform for a broader discussion in Canada about environmental health. The findings suggest that a Pan- Canadian Environmental Health Strategy could help create alignment and coordinated action to build on our existing strengths and to address our environmental health weaknesses.
