williams

Dave Williams

Record-breaking Astronaut and Aquanaut,
CEO Southlake Regional Health Centre

"A true Canadian hero, astronaut Dave Williams is down-to-earth with a compelling and unique approach to peak performance, environmental stewardship, leadership, our futures and risk management.

With a passion for healthcare and risk management, prior to entering the Canadian Space Agency’s program, Dr. Dave Williams worked as an emergency room doctor and later as director of emergency services at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. Formerly the director for the McMaster Centre for Medical Robotics, where he led a team dedicated to developing innovative technologies to assist the development of local and remote patient care. In July 2011 Williams became President and Chief Executive Officer of Southlake Regional Health Centre. In June 2012 Williams was inducted into the Canadian Aviation Hall of Fame.

Dave Williams joined an exclusive club when he blasted into space aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia, and again on Shuttle Endeavour where he walked out into the great beyond. Having also lived and worked in the world’s only underwater ocean laboratory, he became Canada’s first dual astronaut and aquanaut.

Williams is one of the NASA space program’s most accomplished astronauts, setting records in spacewalking. The veteran of two space shuttle missions has logged more than 687 hours in space, including three spacewalks, the highest number of spacewalks ever performed in a single mission. His work with NASA also continued on the ground when the space agency appointed him as director of the Space and Life Sciences Directorate, making Williams the first non-American to hold a senior management position."

What people are saying about CIPHI Ontario events

"I’ve been a member of CIPHI for almost 25 years and look forward to attending the annual provincial conferences to see old friends, meet new colleagues and hear about emerging topics in public health.  Now that I work exclusively in infection prevention and control, this is one of my greatest opportunities to stay connected to issues in other areas of environmental health such as health hazard investigations and water safety.  In the past as a CIPHI executive councillor I have had the opportunity to learn and grow, and look forward to continuing that experience as I volunteer on the 2010 Conference Committee."

Cathy Egan

Ontario Agency for Health Protection and Promotion

"My experience at the 2009 CIPHI Ontario Branch Educational Conference was great from start to finish, and then some! Everything from the outstanding and informative speakers to the personal contacts made throughout the conference created an unforgettable experience. I would like to thank the organizers for hosting a conference that offered such an enjoyable learning experience."
Allison Maxwell
Hastings and Prince Edward Counties

"The 2009 Ontario Branch CIPHI Educational Conference had an abundance of interesting and educational speakers. I was able to bring a wealth of knowledge back to my colleagues at my place of work. The networking opportunities gave me a chance to reconnect with inspectors from across the province as well as share ideas and perspectives on the work we do!"
Andrew Girouard
KFLA Public Health

"Our mandate is to support the work of public health inspectors and medical health officers across the country through the promotion of evidence-based practice and policy.  Participation in CIPHI conferences is an excellent way for us to connect with the frontline to learn about your needs and share knowledge and information."
Christina
National Collaborating Centre for Environmental Health

"TrainCan has exhibited at the Ontario CIPHI Conference for many years. The conference has always met our expectations in terms of booth display and attendees. There has always been interest in our services, cooperation and a strong desire to learn from the public health inspectors.  We will be back next year."
Jim Kostuch

TrainCan, Inc.

"The time spent with public health inspectors has helped us to understand changes in our industry, and how we, in the private sector, can better serve our clients.  We view each conference as a great way to form important relationships in a friendly environment."
